Airport under ocean

This promises to be an interesting and informative article, hit the follow button for more great content.

An airport that is built on an ocean sounds ridiculous right? But it is very true, the Kansai International Airport, colloquially known as Kankū, Is the first airport to be built on an ocean.

Before we go on to see more pictures, lets get to know what an airport really entails

The basic explanation of airports is that it is an area that is designated for takeoff and landing of aircraft. But the explanation that can really cover the full glory of an airport is that, it is an aerodrome with extensive facilities, that is mostly used for commercial air transport. Normally airports often have facilities that can store and maintain aircraft, and also a control tower.

The Kansai International Airport has all these and more because the Engineers and Architects that made this airport, took the construction work to another level of technology and innovation, which has left the world in awe of it's glory.

An ocean is no longer left for just the ships and submarines but planes has also come into it's playing field.

The location of this beautiful construction work is at the artificial island (Kankūjima) that is in the middle of Osaka Bay off the Honshu shore, 38 kilometers southwest of Ōsaka Station, designated within three municipalities, including Izumisano which is the north, Sennan the south, and Tajiri the central, in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Basically Japan takes the credit.

Any right thinking person can easily tell that the amount of work that went into building this amazing international airport was huge.

The sea wall was made of rock and 48,000 tetrapods . Three mountains were excavated for 21 million m³ (27 million cu yd) and 180 million m³ (240 million cu yd) was used to construct the island. 1.10,000 workers and 10 million work hours over 3 years, 80 ships were needed to complete the 30-metres layer of earth over the sea floor and inside the sea wall that was used in the construction.

Kansai International Airport is the main international airport serving Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe. When a tourist or visitor lands at Kansai International Airport, he or she will find it very convenient as a gateway to the country or Japan.

What are your thoughts on this airport?
