Gurira's 2012 play The Convert was premiered as a co-production between the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and the McCarter Theatre in New Jersey. Later that year, Gurira received the Whiting Award for an emerging playwright.

In January 2015, Familiar, a play written by Gurira and directed by Rebecca Taichman, opened at Yale Repertory Theatre. It later premiered Off-Broadway in New York at Playwrights Horizons. The play is about family, cultural identity, and the experience of life as a first-generation American, and Gurira has said that it was inspired in part by her family and friends.

In 2015, Lupita Nyong'o starred in Gurira's play, Eclipsed (2009), Off-Broadway at The Public Theater. It was announced that the play would move to Broadway in 2016 at the John Golden Theatre. It was the first play to premiere on Broadway with an all female and black cast and creative team. Eclipsed was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play, and won the Tony Award for Best Costume Design in a Play.

In 2018, Danai Jekesai Gurira played Okoye, the head of the Dora Milaje , the personal bodyguards of the Black Panther, in Black Panther, an American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, directed by Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Robert Cole, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

In the movie, five African tribes war over a meteorite containing the metal vibranium, thousands of years ago. One warrior ingests a "heart-shaped herb" affected by the metal and gains superhuman abilities, becoming the first "Black Panther". He unites all but the Jabari Tribe to form the nation of Wakanda . Over centuries, the Wakandans use the vibranium to develop advanced technology and isolate themselves from the world by posing as a Third World country. In 1992, Wakanda's King T'Chaka visits his brother N'Jobu, who is working undercover in Oakland, California . T'Chaka accuses N'Jobu of assisting black-market arms dealer Ulysses Klaue with stealing vibranium from Wakanda. N'Jobu's partner reveals he is Zuri, another undercover Wakandan, and confirms T'Chaka's suspicions.

In the present day, following T'Chaka's death, his son T'Challa returns to Wakanda to assume the throne. He and Okoye , the leader of the Dora Milaje regiment, extract T'Challa's ex-lover Nakia from an undercover assignment so she can attend his coronation ceremony with his mother Ramonda and younger sister Shuri . At the ceremony, the Jabari Tribe's leader M'Baku challenges T'Challa for the crown in ritual combat. T'Challa defeats M'Baku and persuades him to yield rather than die.

When Klaue and his accomplice Erik Stevens steal a Wakandan artifact from a London museum, T'Challa's friend and Okoye's lover W'Kabi urges him to bring Klaue back alive. T'Challa, Okoye, and Nakia travel to Busan, South Korea , where Klaue plans to sell the artifact to CIA agent Everett K. Ross. A firefight erupts and Klaue attempts to flee but is caught by T'Challa, who reluctantly releases him to Ross' custody. Klaue tells Ross that Wakanda's international image is a front for a technologically advanced civilization. Erik attacks and extracts Klaue as Ross is gravely injured protecting Nakia. Rather than pursue Klaue, T'Challa takes Ross to Wakanda, where their technology can save him.

While Shuri heals Ross, T'Challa confronts Zuri about N'Jobu. Zuri explains that N'Jobu planned to share Wakanda's technology with people of African descent around the world to help them conquer their oppressors. As T'Chaka arrested N'Jobu, the latter attacked Zuri and forced T'Chaka to kill him. T'Chaka ordered Zuri to lie that N'Jobu had disappeared and left behind N'Jobu's American son in order to maintain the lie. This boy grew up to be Stevens, a U.S. black ops soldier who adopted the name "Killmonger". Meanwhile, Killmonger kills Klaue and takes his body to Wakanda. He is brought before the tribal elders, revealing his identity to be N'Jadaka and claim to the throne. Killmonger challenges T'Challa to ritual combat, where he kills Zuri, defeats T'Challa, and hurls him over a waterfall to his presumed death. Killmonger ingests the heart-shaped herb and orders the rest incinerated, but Nakia extracts one first. Killmonger, supported by W'Kabi and his army, prepares to distribute shipments of Wakandan weapons to operatives around the world.

Nakia, Shuri, Ramonda, and Ross flee to the Jabari Tribe for aid. They find a comatose T'Challa, rescued by the Jabari in repayment for sparing M'Baku's life. Healed by Nakia's herb, T'Challa returns to fight Killmonger, who dons his own Black Panther suit. W'Kabi and his army fight Shuri, Nakia, and the Dora Milaje, while Ross remotely pilots a jet and shoots down planes carrying the vibranium weapons. M'Baku and the Jabari arrive to reinforce T'Challa. Confronted by Okoye, W'Kabi and his army stand down. Fighting in Wakanda's vibranium mine, T'Challa disrupts Killmonger's suit and stabs him. Killmonger refuses to be healed, choosing to die a free man rather than be incarcerated.

T'Challa establishes an outreach center at the building where N'Jobu died, to be run by Nakia and Shuri. In a mid-credits scene, T'Challa appears before the United Nations to reveal Wakanda's true nature to the world. In a post-credits scene, Shuri helps Bucky Barnes with his recuperation.

The movie also stars stars Chadwick Boseman (the American actor who died of cancer yesterday at the age of 43) as T'Challa / Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o , Martin Freeman , Daniel Kaluuya ,Letitia Wright, Winston Duke , Angela Bassett ,Forest Whitaker , and Andy Serkis.

For her scintillating performance in Black Panther movie, she was awarded Saturn Awards for Best Supporting Actress (2017), MTV Movie Awards for Best On-Screen Team (2018), People's Choice Awards for The Action Movie Star of 2018, Black Reel Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress (2018), Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture (2019).

After starring in Black Panther, Gurira reprised Okoye in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame , released in 2018 and 2019 respectively

1. Chelsea 'submit improved bid worth £18m for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy'

Chelsea have reportedly submitted an improved bid worth £18m for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, as the blues coach Frank Lampard set to continue lavish summer spending on a possible replacement for the underperforming Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Frank Lampard has expressed his admiration for the 28-year-old Rennes goalkeeper. The Senegal International will be a cheaper option for Kepa Arrizabalaga. The blues have learnt that their top goalkeeper target Jan Oblak will be difficult to get, considering the amount of money the club spent so far in the transfer market. The Spanish side Athletico Madrid are also unwilling to let their shot stopper leave this summer.

Rennes have rejected Chelsea's initial £15m offer for the goalkeeper, but Frank Lampard side have returned with an improve bid in an effort to make the deal happen. 2. Manchester United 'keeping tabs on Donny van de Beek'

Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close eye on Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek. The Red devils are experiencing a frustrating summer transfer market, with no breakthrough in their pursuit for their priority targets this summer. The Red devils were frustrated with the way things are turning out to be in the transfer market, with Jadon Sancho deal no where close to completion.

The Ole Gunner Solskjaer side want to make quick move and amend their lapses so far, with Donny van de Beek. The 23-year-old midfielder have been linked with a move away from the Eredivisie giants for several months, now the player was left out of Ajax's squad due his transfer issues and development. The player is now reportedly waiting to see if Barcelona will make a bid for him before he decides his future.

According to Sky Sport News, Van de Beek is Keen on moving to Premier League, and the Netherland international is strongly on Manchester United radar ahead of a new campaign. It remains to be seen if Manchester United could convince the player to join them before the transfer window shuts.

3. Lionel Messi's £632m Barcelona transfer clause 'has expired' in major Man City boost

Barcelona are hoping to reach a £250m compromise with Manchester City over Lionel Messi deal, but according to the latest reports from Spain Messi's suitors no longer have to trigger a release clause to get the Argentine. Manchester City are hoping to sign Lionel Messi for free after the player revealed that he has an option in his contract to leave at the end of each season.

However, Barcelona claim that arrangements has expired since June 10 and can't come into effect until next summer. According to recent reports from Spain, Lionel Messi has told the club that he will not show up for pre-season training in an effort to force his move out of the club.
